Kolukattai with Sesame Seeds, Copra and Kasa Kasa Filling

One variety of kolukattai, made on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, uses sesame seeds, copra and kasa kasa (also known as gasa gase or khus khus) for the filling. The use of sesame seeds, in particular has significance, because Lord Ganesh is said to be fond of these seeds. This filling can be stored for up to 4 weeks. What this means is that you can prepare the filling to make kolukattai on the day of the festival and on a day after the festival.

The kolukattai has two parts: 1. Shell / skin.  2. Filling.

The shell / skin is made from rice flour dough. The filling, as said above, is prepared from sesame seeds, copra (dry coconut) and kasa kasa.

The procedure to make the filling is given on this page.

The links to the procedure to make the shell and to make the kolukattai itself follows the steps to make the filling.
