Akki shavige uppittu is a super delicious vegetarian food made from ottu shavige, which is steam-cooked.

A good thing about the akki shavige uppittu is it can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Eat it without a side dish or use coconut chutney. In either case, akki shavige uppittu will be very yummy.


If you want to use a side dish, but do not have the time or interest to prepare one, use fresh yogurt or curd.

Add a few drops of lemon juice to the akki shavige uppittu for a finer taste.

Ingredients:

This seasoning is for akki shavige prepared from 1 cup of rice.

1. Oil 1 and 1/2 to 2 tablespoons
2. Mustard 1/4 teaspoon
3. Ground nut 1/2 tablespoon
4. Channa dal 1/2 teaspoon
5. Urad dal 1/2 teaspoon
6. Cumin seeds 1/4 teaspoon
7. Green chillies 5-6 or to taste
8. Curry leaves 2 sprigs
9. Ginger, 1/4 teaspoon, chopped

12. Cooked peas 1/2 cup
13. Turmeric 1/4 teaspoon
14. Salt to taste
15. Coconut gratings 2 tablespoon
16. Lemon juice
17. Fresh coriander leaves 1 tablespoon

How to make Akki Shavige Uppittu?


1. Chop the capsicums and green chillies.

Grate the carrot.

Keep aside.
2. Heat oil in a pan.
3. Add mustard when the oil is hot.

4. Add groundnuts and channa dal when the mustards begin to splutter.

Fry for 1 minute.

5. Add urad dal and cumin seeds and fry till the dals turn golden brown.

6. Add curry leaves and chopped green chillies. Fry for 1 minute.

7. Add chopped ginger and capsicum. Fry till capsicum is cooked.

8. Add carrot gratings and turmeric and fry for 1 minute.

9. Add cooked peas, little salt and coconut gratings.

Fry for 1 minute.

Add lemon juice.

Mix.
10. Keep the above vegetable seasoning aside to cool.
11. Mix the seasoning with the akki shavige or home-made noodles, salt and lemon juice slowly and gently.
12. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
