Drinking a glass of ragi ambli or porridge in the morning can be a great way to start a day. Here is the ragi ambli recipe.


1. Gooseberry / amla about 10-12
2. Chilli powder 3-4 teaspoon
3. Mustard 1/2 teaspoon
4. Methi seeds 1/4 teaspoon
5. Turmeric 1/4 teaspoon
6. Salt to taste


1. Oil 2 teaspoon
2. Mustard 1/2 teaspoon
3. Hing / asafoetida 1 pinch

How to make Amla Pickle?

1. Wash and dry the gooseberries / amla.

Keep them in a bowl.

2. Add about one and half a cup of water to the pressure cooker.

3. Place the bowl inside the pressure cooker.

4. Cover the pressure cooker with its lid.
5. Cook for one whistle.

6. When there is no pressure in the cooker, remove the bowl from it. Keep aside to cool.

7. Gently touch a gooseberry.  If you can handle the heat in it, press the gooseberry between your fingers.  It breaks into pieces.  Remove the seed.  Repeat this procedure for the other berries.

8. Dry fry mustard and methi seeds, each separately till they splutter. Keep aside to cool.

Crush the fried mustard and methi seeds into a powder, using a stone or rolling pin.
9. Heat the oil in a wok over low heat.
10. When the oil becomes hot add mustard and hing.  When mustard starts to splutter, switch off the stove. Keep aside the seasoning to cool.

11. Mix the gooseberry pieces, chilli powder, mustard and methi powder, turmeric, seasoning and salt. Gooseberry pickle is ready.
