Servings: About 12 Oats Idlis


1. Oats 3/4 cup
2. Rice rava 1/2 cup
3. Shavige / vermicelli 1/2 cup
4. Curd / yogurt about 2-1/4 cup
5. Cooking soda (sodium bi carbonate) 2 pinches
6. Oil 1 teaspoon (optional)
7. Salt to taste

How to make Oats Idli?

1. Dry fry the oats and rice rava, separately, till these become little hot.

Keep aside to cool.
2. Fry shavige / vermicelli in one teaspoon of oil till it is light- brown.

Keep aside to cool.
3. Mix oats, rice rava, shavige / vermicelli and two cups of curd in an utensil.

Keep aside for 30 minutes.
4. Add soda and salt. Mix.

If the batter becomes too thick, add more curd and mix.
5. Oil the idli mould in the idli stand.

6. Add about two cups of water to the idli cooker and heat it till the water boils.
7. Pour the batter into the idli moulds.

8. Place the idli stand in the cooker.

After it begins to whistle, steam for about 12-15 minutes over medium heat.
9. Check if the oats idlis are cooked:

Wet a finger and gently touch an idli (be careful, because the idlis will be hot)


Insert the back side of a spoon and gently remove it.

If the batter does not stick to your finger / spoon, the idli is cooked properly. Otherwise, cook for a few more minutes and test again.
10. Remove the idli stand from the cooker.

11. Use a spoon and remove the oats idlis from the mould.

Oats idli is ready.

Serve hot with chutney.

TIPS How to Make Oats Idli?
1. The batter becomes too thick, if the rava and shavige / vermicelli is roasted more. To fix this problem, add more curd to the batter.
2. Use a pressure cooker, if you do not have the idli cooker, without putting the whistle.
