Servings: 6-7 Dosas


1. Moong whole (mung / green gram / hesarukalu) or moong dal 1/2 cup or sprouted moong 1 cup
2. Raw rice 2 tablespoons
3. Salt to taste
4. Cooking soda 1 pinch (optional)
5. Oil

How to make Sprouted Moong Dosa?

1. If you are using sprouted moong, wash the raw rice.

Drain the water.

Soak the rice in water for 2-3 hours.

If you are using moong whole, wash it and the raw rice.

Drain the water.

Soak them in water overnight.


If you are using moong dal, wash it and the raw rice.

Drain the water.

Soak them in water for 2-3 hours.

This recipe assumes you are going to use sprouted moong. The procedure, however, is also the same for moong whole and raw rice and moong dal and raw rice combinations.
2. Grind sprouted moong and soaked rice together, adding enough water, into a fine paste.

3. Transfer the mixture to an utensil.

Add salt and cooking soda.

Mix. If the mixture is thick, add water.

The sprouted moong dosa batter is ready.
4. Heat a tava.

Coat the tava with little oil.

5. Pour a ladle full of sprouted moong dosa batter on the hot tava.

Spread the batter on the entire tava.

6. Take little oil in a spoon and sprinkle the oil on the batter.
7. Lift the dosa carefully and flip it, using a spatula, when the dosa's top surface changes color.

Sprinkle little oil on the dosa with a spoon.

8. After 1-2 minutes flip again and cook till the bottom surface becomes golden brown.

TIPS Moong Dal Dosa Recipe
1. If you prefer crispy sprouted moong dosa:

Spread the dosa batter thinly on the entire hot tava

Sprinkle little oil on the dosa with a spoon. Turn the flame to medium

Turn the flame to low, as soon as a few brown spots begin to appear on the dosa

Wait till the dosa is cooked
2. Add jeera, green chilies and ginger while grinding to make the dosa spicy.
