To make this dosa, you can use the white bread or wheat bread. Use the later, if possible, because it is said to be healthier.

Do you have to use fresh bread only to make this dosa? You can use fresh bread or left over bread within its expiration date. For instance, if you have some slices of bread remaining, and are bored to eat them, you may want to use such slices to prepare the bread dosa batter.

To make the batter, break the bread slices into small pieces. Soak them in curd and water for about five minutes. Grind the pieces. Mix the ground paste with the other ingredients.

A question some have on the bread dosa recipe is whether to discard the dark-brown, outer part of the bread slices. No, the part should be left intact. The reason is the brown skin adds to the taste of the dosa.

Servings: 8-9 Dosas

Ingredients:

1. Wheat flour bread / white bread 3 slices
2. Chiroti rava / fine rava 1/2 cup
3. Rice flour 1/4 cup
4. Curd / yogurt 1/2 cup or buttermilk 1 cup
5. Salt to taste

1. Break each bread slice into small pieces.

2. Soak the pieces in about 1-and-1/4 cup of water and curd or buttermilk

NOTE
If you are using buttermilk use less water.

Keep aside for about 5 minutes.
3. Grind the soaked bread pieces to a fine paste.

4. Add chiroti rava, rice flour and salt to a utensil.

5. Add the paste and mix.

If the mixture becomes thick, add water and mix.

The bread dosa batter is ready.

6. Heat a dosa tava.

Coat the tava with little oil.

7. When the tava becomes hot, pour a laddle full of the batter at the center.

Gently spread the batter in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards to create a circular shape.

8. Cook till both sides turn to golden brown.

9. Bread dosa is ready.

Serve hot with a dollop of butter and a side dish like onion tomato chutney.

TIPS Bread Dosa
1. If you do not have chiroti or fine rava, use medium or local rava and grind it along with the bread pieces.
2. Add jeera and finely-grated coconut to the batter to make the dosa tastier.
