Peas Curry

Peas curry is an excellent side dish for neer dosa, chapati, dosapoori, ragi roti, rice roti and for a number of other cuisines. The peas curry recipe, in addition to peas, has carrots and onions among the main ingredients. Other than the fine taste, peas curry offers health benefits too.

According to the U.S. National Nutrient Database, peas are rich in water, fiber, sugars and protein. These are also rich in potassium, sodium and phosphorous.

With the peas curry recipe you can make a tasty and healthy curry in just a few steps.

Use fresh peas, which are available in its season, rather than the dried peas, for a tastier curry.

If you wish to make the pea curry richer, add cashews to the items you use for preparing the masala. Then, add milk cream as a topping to the curry.







Servings:  2-3

Ingredients:

1.
Fresh peas 1 cup
2.
Carrot 1
3.
Onions 2
4. Oil 2-3 teaspoons
5. Chopped coriander 1/2 tablespoon
6. Salt to taste


Masala Items:

1.
Onion pieces 1 tablespoon
2. Coconut gratings 2 tablespoons
3. Ginger small piece
4. Poppy seeds / khus khus / gasagase 1 teaspoon
5. Cinnamon small piece
6. Cloves 2
7. Mace small piece
8. Coriander seeds 3/4 teaspoon
9. Tomato 1
10. Red chilies 3-4 or to taste




Peas Curry Recipe


1. Chop onions and carrot. Keep aside. peas curry s1

2. Grind all the masala items into a paste using water. peas curry s2

3. Heat oil in a pan or cooker. peas curry s3
4. Add onions.







Fry till the onions turn to golden brown.

5. Add the masala paste.







Fry for 2-3 minutes.

6. Add peas and carrots.






Mix.

7. Add water sufficient to cook the peas

Add extra water, if you want the curry to be more gravy.

8. Add salt. Mix.
9. Cook the mixture in a pan till the peas become soft.

OR

Cook in a pressure cooker till it whistles once.

10. Add the chopped coriander. Mix.

TIPS Peas Curry
1. You can prepare this curry using dried peas also. Here are the steps:

- Soak the dried peas in water for 6-8 hours.

- Pressure cook the peas and carrot till these become soft.

- Add peas, water and salt to the masala paste in Step 6.

- Cook till the oil floats.
2. To make the curry very rich, add 1 teaspoon of butter at the time you add the chopped coriander. Mix.
3. Add lemon juice if you want the pea curry to be spicier.
